Ela Taubert, the Colombian artist, achieved a monumental career milestone by winning the coveted Best New Artist award at the 2024 Latin Grammys. This triumph was followed by the debut of her collaboration with Joe Jonas, "¿Cómo Pasó?"—another major accomplishment for the rising star.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Taubert shared with Billboard about her unforgettable night. “It was surreal to see legends like Karol G, Feid, Sebastián Yatra, and Carlos Vives react to my win. Their success motivates me to keep pushing forward in this very difficult journey.”
From Bogotá to the Latin Grammys: A Musical Journey
Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Ela Taubert was surrounded by music, thanks to a family of passionate music lovers. She credits her late uncle, the only musician in her family, for sparking her love for music. Influenced by global icons like Taylor Swift, Adele, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Latin stars such as Reik and Jesse y Joy, Taubert began her musical journey early, with the support of her mother who worked tirelessly to help her succeed.
Taubert started by posting covers on social media, with performances of “Si Te La Encuentras Por AhÔ by Feid and “Don’t You Remember” by Adele gaining traction online. Her cover of Feid’s hit went viral on TikTok, earning praise from Feid himself and landing her a spot on Billboard’s On the Radar Latin feature earlier this year.
The Breakthrough: Universal Music and Her First EP
Taubert’s big break came when she joined Universal Music Latin’s Abbey Road Institute & Art House Academy, where she refined her musical craft. “I learned not to compare myself, to listen to myself,” she recalls. This was where she found her musical voice and connected her childhood dreams to her current work.
In 2023, she released her EP ¿Quién Dijo Que Era Fácil?, which marked the beginning of her official career under Universal Music Latin. “That’s when my new era began,” Taubert reflects. “It was the best decision of my life.”
Performing with Latin Legends and Collaborating with Joe Jonas
Ela Taubert has shared stages with some of Latin music’s biggest stars, including Alejandro Sanz, Diego Torres, Morat, and even Karol G during the Mañana Será Bonito tour. Her collaboration with Joe Jonas on “¿Cómo Pasó?”—a bilingual version of her earlier release—has become a standout track, currently ranking No. 12 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart.
In a heartwarming turn of events, Taubert reached out to Jonas on Instagram, thanking him for being an inspiration. To her surprise, Jonas replied, and soon after, the collaboration was born. “I’m still in shock because so many things are happening to me that I dreamed of as a child,” she says.
Ela Taubert: A Rising Star with a Bright Future
At just 24 years old, Ela Taubert has already achieved remarkable success, but she’s far from done. Her major accomplishment? “Taking my mother’s and grandfather’s last name to places no one would have imagined,” she says. “I promised my grandfather that I would always keep his legacy alive, and I feel proud to do that every day.”
As for what’s next? Taubert promises more music, surprises, and exciting announcements. “We’re working hard, and I feel like each song represents a new stage for me. I’ll be performing at festivals and announcing concerts soon. Stay tuned for more!”
